Man cannot truly understand morality because it is in the realm of God, and we must simply trust what He has laid out for us in His message. For humans, the natural tendency is that the ultimate aim of morality is the preservation of human life and the avoidance of suffering, yet it’s presumptuous to assume that it is also the ultimate aim of God, as, Him being a higher being, it seems absurd to suggest that He fears that one may suffer. It is often asked by critics of religion, “Why does God allow man to suffer?” Does man hesitate as he walks, worrying that he may step on an ant as he treads? That is not to say God is arbitrary and does not pity those who suffer, in fact He makes it clear that those who suffer unjustly are not forgotten and will be rewarded in the hereafter. But it must be understood that the nature of God is wholly and utterly incomprehensible to ourselves due to the innate deficiency of our senses. We struggle to comprehend the profane, how could we ever even wish to comprehend the holy? In our blind grasping of morality every man diverges from another, but if we had been granted the ability of sight by God, we would be able to see the truth as concretely as we see the sun or the moon, yet it is His choice that we do not. God has made us blind, deficient in these means, as a test of our character and faith, that we may resist our temptations, our basal animal instincts and fears, and put our full faith and trust in God.
