Do you know just how many South Thailanders there are? Millions, tens of millions. Maybe even hundreds of millions.
Oh so many! Are they all unique, or do they repeat at some point?
Did God make each and every one with his hands, painting each mole and scar upon their person, forming each of their fingers with his fingers out of their clay, or did he phone a few in?
And there are not only the South Thailanders in question, but also the North Thailanders! They, of whom their numbers may be even more numerous, or perhaps it may be the Central Thailanders who number the greatest, that is, if there is such distinction as a “Central Thailand.”
Perhaps the polity is simply divided on a north/south divide, like Korea, Sudan, or the Carolinas.
And then how many souls inhabit the north and south of Korea, Sudan, and the Carolinas? How much depth of each soul?
If there was a Central Thailand, from which the North and South Thailanders were distinct, Central Thailand then being referred to as Thailand, by its virtue of being central, does that not then make the North and South Thailanders distinct in some way?
Are they not then Less Thai than the Central Thailanders? Thermodynamically speaking, of course.
Of what merit do the Central Thailanders become More Thai than the others, may it not be that Thainess be concentrated in either North or South Thailand? And that Central Thailand, while not in either case being the Least Thai, is surely not to be the Most Thai?
This distinction of course requires someone more knowledgeable than I on the peoples which constitute Thailand.
Also I looked it up, it’s like nine and a half million. So a great deal, but not as many as I first thought. Bummer.
Did you know that the name Thailand is a portmanteau of the words “Thai” and “land”? This portmanteau of course refers to the fact that Thailand is a land inhabited by a people who may be called the “Thai”. Few know this, as it is a sort of esoteric knowledge, known by few.
